First Lab Cancelled
Just heard the official announcement that all EE labs in the first week will be cancelled due to the inaccessibility of the engineering building. This delayed news makes students uncomfortable (if they have to commute to UNO) but has saved … Continue reading

Lunch and Dinner @ Chinese New Year
Took some jogging around the lake with Abhijit and had some good Dim Sums in a Chinese restaurant for a very decent price. Bought some dumpling and mangos home for dinner. Hope things will become better in the new ”dog” … Continue reading

classroom change & course arrangement
Just heard that EN building did not pass the test and the classroom changes had been made. I still do not know whether my two labs can be arranged for the first week. It seems to be a tough call. … Continue reading

model selection, statistical learning and estimation error bounds
Just finished reading an online tutorial on statistical learning theory. I am more or less interested in model selection and error bound development which can be data or function dependent. People have put much effort on bounding the difference between … Continue reading

waiting for the background check to be completed
Another day that I have to get up early in the morning. Walking to GO station in rain and snow. Arrived at Toronto consulate office too early to be examined for visa follow-up. At 8:30am submitted my passport and the … Continue reading

working on estimation lower bounds related performance metrics
It is quite obvious that the posterior Cramer Rao lower bound (PCRLB) can be very loose. The recursive computation of PCRLB may make the gap between the theoretical bound and the achievable minimum mean square error (MMSE) grow larger and … Continue reading

I called Toronto consulate office a hundred times from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. At 4:01pm the call went through. I explained my situation and requested to expedite the resume screening for my case. The lady asked my name and date of … Continue reading

Second visit to Toronto US consulate general
Got up 5:30am and managed to catch the 6:00am QEW express bus. Being the first one of the line in front of the consulate office, I watched the sky becoming brighter and brighter. The security officer knows me now but … Continue reading
