First Lab Cancelled

Just heard the official announcement that all EE labs in the first week will be cancelled due to the inaccessibility of the engineering building. This delayed news makes students uncomfortable (if they have to commute to UNO) but has saved … Continue reading

model selection, statistical learning and estimation error bounds

Just finished reading an online tutorial on statistical learning theory. I am more or less interested in model selection and error bound development which can be data or function dependent. People have put much effort on bounding the difference between … Continue reading

waiting for the background check to be completed

Another day that I have to get up early in the morning. Walking to GO station in rain and snow. Arrived at Toronto consulate office too early to be examined for visa follow-up. At 8:30am submitted my passport and the … Continue reading

working on estimation lower bounds related performance metrics

It is quite obvious that the posterior Cramer Rao lower bound (PCRLB) can be very loose. The recursive computation of PCRLB may make the gap between the theoretical bound and the achievable minimum mean square error (MMSE) grow larger and … Continue reading

Second visit to Toronto US consulate general

Got up 5:30am and managed to catch the 6:00am QEW express bus. Being the first one of the line in front of the consulate office, I watched the sky becoming brighter and brighter. The security officer knows me now but … Continue reading
